Species & seasonal notes

  • Winter best (avoid hot months); monsoon also OK for residents.
  • 2 hides (Painted Spurfowl hide + Bear hide/cage) + Tungabhadra canal ride + walks.
  • Painted Spurfowls most active early morning — arrive early. Also visible near temple area even without hide.
  • Target species: Yellow-throated Bulbul, Painted Spurfowl, Jungle/Rock Bush Quail, Painted Sandgrouse, Sirkeer Malkoha, Indian Eagle Owl, Brown Fish Owl.
  • Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary 15–20 km away — sloth bear sighting almost guaranteed (daily jaggery-water feeding).

Logistics

  • Access: train to Hosapete (20 min rickshaw) or Vande Bharat to Hubli (4 hr cab).
  • One day of birding usually enough; longer if temple-touring.
