Species & seasonal notes

  • Grasslands (Kumbhargaon / Shirsuphal / Kadbanwadi): Indian Courser, Sandgrouse, Rain Quail, Bush Quail, Button Quail, Vernal Hanging Parrot, Grassbird, Painted Bush Quail.
  • Raptors: Marsh Harrier, Osprey, Greater Spotted / Bonelli's / Short-toed / Steppe / Imperial Eagle, Red-necked Falcon, Shikra, Kestrel; lucky: Shaheen Falcon.
  • Mammals: Indian Grey Wolf, Striped Hyena, Jackal, Fox, Chinkara.
  • Monsoon (May–July onwards): Bush quails, Buttonquails, Painted Bush Quail around area. For ODKF/BBDKF go to Tamhini base / Konkan belt (Panvel, Chiplun, Guhagar).
  • Boat safari closes during strong winds (monsoon).

Logistics

  • ~100–120 km / 2–4 hrs from Pune. FD grassland safari ~Rs 2,500 all-inclusive per session (gypsy + guide).
  • Transport: Swargate → Solapur/Pandharpur/Indapur bus (get off at Bhigwan); local train towards Solapur; or Udyan Express Mumbai→Daund 08:10→12:55 then 40 min.
  • Shoot from vehicle on grasslands — max 2–3 photographers per vehicle ideal.
  • Book directly with local guides (cheaper and better than tour operators).
