Species & seasonal notes

  • Best window: Nov / early-Dec and first 2 weeks of Feb. Fog mid-Dec to end-Jan.
  • Check water levels before going — high water (e.g., late-Nov) kills duck/goose/coot activity inside the park; the ducks move to fields outside.
  • High-water sightings typical: Painted Storks, Spoonbills, Ibis, Cormorants, Darters.
  • Season almost over by mid-March; very hot by mid-April.
  • Canteen at Darter Point sells bread pakoda, Maggie, snacks.

Logistics

  • Cycle rickshaw + e-rickshaw operators double as guides; guides no longer compulsory but strongly recommended from Jan onwards.
  • Bicycle (incl. electric) is the best way to access seldom-visited areas; e-autos are paved-route only.
  • Allow minimum 3–4 days for full coverage; keep buffer for rain.
  • February 2026 had JCB construction inside park disturbing birds — check current status.
